Efficiency Evaluation and Optimization of a 210 MW Thermal Power Plant: A Comprehensive Energy Audit

Abstract


For methodical decision-making regarding energy management, an energy audit is essential. It entails locating every energy source inside a building and aiming for a balance between energy consumption and inputs. Since India produces a large amount of its electricity through thermal power and loses a large amount of it to inefficiencies, this study investigates the energy efficiency of a 210 MW thermal power plant. The goal of the study is to identify important areas and strategies for raising thermal power plants' overall efficiency. The article offers details on the steps involved in conducting an energy audit in thermal power plants, as well as methods for gathering data. To create an environment that is rich in energy, it highlights the significance of recycling waste energy and conserving idle energy. The study shows potential energy savings, including 16.7 MWh of electrical energy and significant financial savings, through an energy audit performed at a thermal power plant. An approximate investment of Rs. 603 lakh is needed to implement energy efficiency measures, with a calculated payback period of 14.1 months.
