Experimental Analysis of a Portable Solar Water Distillation System

Anirban Sur

Abstract

We know that water available in National Capital Region of Delhi India is contaminated and have high hardness, so it cannot be used directly for industrial purpose. So I have made an attempt to get the distilled water of lower hardness with the help of solar energy. Experimental result of a double slope single basin solar distiller is explained in this paper. The motivation for this project is the conversion of impure, polluted, waste industrial water to clean, distil (low hardness no) water by a portable device water without use of electricity. To achieve this goal, a system is designed incorporating a flat solar collector coupled with a custom designed distillation device. The still has a base area of 1.48 m2 with glass covers inclined at 23o. The designed model produces 23 liters of pure water during 24 h. The efficiency of still is 27.15%.  The running cost of the model is nil.
