Abstract

Stormwater management is the science of managing the surface runoff to prevent adverse impact on the environment. The main aim of storm water management is to manage water quantity and in addition to protect water quality. The rainfall infiltrates into the soil, be held on the surface and evaporate, or runoff and ends up in nearby streams, rivers, or other water bodies. The storm water management becomes more challenging due to constant increase in the three global trends; urbanization, population growth, climate change ; which results in loss of life and property. So for Badlapur city, the main strategy is to control flooding and to reduce the erosion on land. It mainly focuses on planning the area by using convinent practices to prevent impact of storm water. The study aims to stimulate the analysis of rainfall and runoff process; thereby designing the appropriate drainage system. The main objective is to study rainfall characteristics, to estimate the runoff of study area, to check the adequacy of existing drainage system and also prescribe the storm water management techniques.
