Bahlool Ehmeda Ghiryani Abdulaziz, Masoud Ehmed Suliman Ehmed

Abstract

Rainwater, groundwater and surface water are considered the most important sources of water for most Arab countries in general. Most Libyan cities depend mainly on groundwater for drinking water sources. Al-Jufra is one of the areas that has suffered from a lack of water resources in recent years as a result of urban, population and agricultural development. And as it occupies an important geographical area in the center of the Libyan state. Therefore, the competent authorities had to increase the expansion of digging wells to provide the quantities of water needed to meet the daily needs of the population and to face the various developments taking place in the region. This study aims to assess and evaluate the current situation of drinking water in the Al-Jufra region in its five regions (Sukna, Houn, Wadan, Zella and Al-Fuqaha) based on the statistics obtained from the Civil Status Office. From it, mathematical formulas have been applied in estimating population growth and approximating the actual water need based on calculating the current population growth rate for the year 2022 and the future for the region until the year 2045. The estimated quantities of the annual productivity of the different wells were also known for each of the regions separately. The current total and the estimated future total for each of the water quantity for the wells and the population census of all regions were also calculated. In addition, knowing the extent of the impact of the depletion of water resources in this region on the impact of population growth and developing a vision for water needs and the amount of water deficit in the future.
