Infusion of Traditional Wisdom and Modern Technology to Achieve Sustainable Dimension in Architecture and Built Environment

Divyanshi Sahu

Abstract

Building sectors accelerate climate change, and the conventional method of construction affects the environment. This research aims to study the practice of infusing traditional techniques and modern technology in building construction that helps to achieve environmental sustainability without relinquishing indoor thermal comfort. This research analyses case studies of two residential buildings located in Ahmedabad, constructed on the conventional method and infusion method of construction, and conducts energy simulations of both residences using eQuest software. Results draft a comparative analysis chart measuring indoor comfort, energy consumption, and environmental impacts of both cases and draw a conclusion that construction based on infusion practice leads to a cost-effective approach to construction and helps to achieve environmental sustainability. The scope of the research is limited to the environmental dimension of sustainability and does not discuss other aspects (economic and social) of sustainability.
