Virtual Design Studio-based Teaching and Learning in B.Arch. Program

Namita Kathuria Babbar

Abstract

In Architecture education a new dimension is added in context to technology. If the person is equipped with technology learning will be infinite and multidisciplinary its future scope is also clarified by this means. Many parameters are crossed in learning through technology like countries, proximity to individuals; environment and other hostile conditions are avoided through technology. All the possible outcomes are available through technology like with the use of software’s, hardware’s and web endless knowledge we come across through our own workstation. Everything is available at our door service. The approach is same from Conventional studio-based learning but innovations are done at each and every stage. For the students, it is very crucial to design exercises for them with the help of technology which is relevant and up to date is used in present studio teaching. Many approaches are seen in the past few years because a school of thought is developed in architect’s philosophy come into existence. In COVID situation, technology took the major role in teaching/learning process of architecture. All of us learn through hit and trials because in pandemic it was the only option left for successful completion of the course. Main purpose of the study is to evolve new methodology for Teaching/Learning in Design Studio Pedagogy in an environment composite of technology and traditional teaching. By the meaning of improvising the classroom and studio environment in context to collaborative learning, virtual classroom, virtual design studio, smart classroom & OIKODOMOMS (Virtual Campus to promote the teaching/learning) and Virtual Reality Modelling Language to be taught in colleges. Aspects like Design, construction, and planning are easily explained with the use of technology in context to software’s & hardware devices. Learning through an exercise/activity in context to architecture is more relevant and effective method to teach. In architecture, many parameters of research and application are also resolved through the use of software. Systematic research methodology will be followed in this research article. Findings will be based on literature review of previous papers. This article will provide study models for virtual design studios existing in international institutions.
