Overview of PLC Security Challenges and Applications

Mohammad Faizan, Tej Prakash Verma, Arun Kumar Yadav

Abstract

In this paper, as the need for automation rises sharply, a control system should be simple to programme, adaptable, trustworthy, durable, and economical. PLC is frequently employed in digital world applications that are used in the industrial sector. PLCs are frequently used in businesses to automate repetitive and sequential tasks. Industry 4.0 manufacturing settings can easily integrate PLC controllers. It may be predicted that these controllers will continue to be crucially important for production in the era of Industry 4.0 and Industrial Internet. One must describe all potential dangers, locate their origins within the facility, and take other precautions to prevent or lessen the probability of sabotage or data loss in order to reduce the risks connected with Internet connection. Discussion is had over the security of the PLC communication protocols used in industrial control systems and PLCs have a wide range of applications.
