A Review on Earth-Air Heat Exchanger Systems

Abstract

Earth-air heat exchanger (EAHE) is a system which uses the heat and cool of ground and is utilized for the space heating and cooling purposes. Performance of EAHE is dependent on the thermal properties of soil. If the thermal quality of soil is poor so the pipe is to be buried at more depth. The concept exploits the subsoil thermal energy and uses it for producing indoor thermal comforts in both summer and winter seasons. The EAHE is a promising technique which can effectively be used to reduce the heating/cooling load of a building by preheating the air in winter and vice versa in summer. This work focuses on different designs EAHE system to be evaluated on the similar external factors. This paper presents an overview of EAHE systems. Works of different scholars and investigators are discussed elaborating the methods followed in order to enhance and improve the performance.
