Abstract

Industrial drive applications require rugged, low maintenance and simple constructed motors which are the features of induction motor. Speed control of SRIM can be accomplish by using either of the control technique i.e. rotor resistance control, inverter control & chopper control. This paper presents the improvements in the performance of SRIM drive offered by slip power recovery scheme using buck-boost chopper control technique with LC filter. The simulation model of a 2 hp SRIM drive using natural commutated inverter control and buck-boost chopper control has been established with the help of SIMULINK environment. Additionally, an LC filter has been incorporated to decrease the THD of the supply mains. The simulation results of inverter control, chopper control with and without LC filter have been analyzed and compared. The power quality parameters such as efficiency, THD, and PF have been taken for analyzing the improvement in the performance of the SRIM drive. The simulation results obtained from the MATLAB/Simulink model have shown the higher PF and efficiency and lower THD using chopper controlled SPRS as compared to SPRS controller with natural commutated inverter.
