The Impact of Faults in Three-phase Transmission Line and Their Detection Techniques: A Review

Abstract


A three three-phase AC transmission line serves to be a key player in the electric power system. Fault occurrence in the lines disturb the continuity of electricity supply and lead to power losses. Various faults like LG, LL, LLG, LLL, LLLG, symmetrical faults, etc. occur in the transmission lines and tend to reduce the system efficiency. During such abnormal conditions, faults are detected through manual and/or automated systems. In an automized system, the occurrence of any fault or disturbance and its effective value is notified to the nearby substations. The present paper study discusses the inference over the works of various authors in utilizing such automized system for electric fault detection in the transmission line for immediate action over the fault.
