DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FOR PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED PEOPLE

Abstract


In our today’s busy world transportation plays a major role for everyone to travel from one place
to another. Mostly 90% of people will use either a car or bike for the mode of transportation. So
to make the driving very much easier for them and to reduce the work effort we have concluded a
project. So our project is mainly focused on eliminating the work action like accelerating,
braking and also applying the clutch and even gear changing, which will be very useful for
physically challenged people. So they can control all this work action by using a joystick, an
arduino is connected to the joystick as well as linear actuator motor or a servo motor by making
use of this the entire work process is reduced. When the joystick is moved forward to the positive
y axis the acceleration will be increased by the motor connected at the end of each pedal, And
when the joystick is moved backward the acceleration will be gradually reduced and when it
comes to the negative y-axis the brake will be applied gradually. So the joystick which will be
proportional to the motors and when comes for changing gears the same joystick is used, when
the joystick reaches the forward maximum end and holded for a certain time the clutch will be
engaged and the gears will be increased and the acceleration will also be increased for next gear
which is programed at the arduino and when the joystick is lowered to negative y axis the gears
will be reduced depending upon the speed or else we can use a separate joystick for changing
gears which can be moved in the left and right direction. When the joystick is moved towards the
left clutch will be applied and gears will be increased and while the joystick is moved towards
right the clutch also applied and gears will be decreased. So with the use of the joystick we have
reduced the major effort for physically challenged people
