Abstract

The power plants behavior is crucial under faulted conditions and their interaction with protection systems. The major microgrid protection problem is related to huge difference between the fault current in utilitygrid mode and microgrid mode. As conventional protection system doesn’t offer solution for all micro grid protection challenge, but it needs advanced protection strategy. Protection system must be response to both the utilitygrid and microgrid faults. Rapid response is necessary as early as possible if the fault is occurs on utility grid for the protection of system. If the fault is occurs on microgrid, the protection scheme must isolate the small possible portion of microgrid to eliminate the fault. This paper presents a typical microgrid protection scheme using digital relaying and satellite communication based on wavelet detailed coefficients of mother wavelet Bior 1.5. This research work is carried out for the detection, discrimination and locality of faults on distributed generators (DG’s) integration in multi terminal transmission system. The algorithm is tested under various faults with different inception angle  faults, fault impedances and fault distance of feeder line.
