Performance Improvement of DFIG using Fractional Order PI Controller

Abstract

Abstract: In this paper integer order and fractional order PI controller is designed to enhance the performance of the DFIG used in wind power plants. In DFIG, pitch angle control at high wind speed certainly experiences some issues in terms of performance. In this regard, the pitch angle is controlled by increasing the wind speed above the middle speed (12 m/s) to limit the DFIG active power and rotor speed. To improve the machine performance an efficient controller like FOPI is designed to achieve the desired requirements. The effectiveness of the FOPI controller is tested by comparing it with the integer order PI controller at MATLAB/SIMULINK environment.
