Abstract

Abstract

Concrete is used as the dominant material in construction industries. As the population of globe increase rapidly, worlds faces the problem for habitation and waste by-product. As the waste is proportional to the population and there are restrictions of natural resources used in concrete, this construction industry needs some heed to use some other material so that they can be mixed in concrete to get the new product, the physical properties of which are same as that of the conventional one. Every year, there is several tons of waste glasses created all over the world. Waste glass can be re-used as a fine raw material and it presents an option to save natural and non-renewable materials. The use of waste glass powder in concrete production can make the construction industry more ecological. In this research, an attempt is made to bring into play the waste glass in various proportions so that the final product’s property of concrete mixture is same as that of the control mix. Waste glass bottle fine crushed material was replaced with fine aggregate in various percentages such as 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40%. Reference concrete mix is also made for comparative reasons. Test results indicated that on 25% partial replacement of fine aggregate by waste bottle glass fine crushed material of M40 grade concrete; compressive strength was found to be greater than the target mean; compressive strength of normal M40 grade concrete then decreases. Almost same pattern was also observed with splitting tensile strength of concrete and flexure strength of concrete on 25% replacement of waste bottle glass fine crushed material into fine aggregate of M40 grade concrete;which were found to increase to the splitting tensile strength of normal M40 grade concrete.
