Abstract

Anticorrosive coating is one of the important forms of protective coating which is discovered years ago. Modification in conventional anticorrosive coatings is going to make it more efficient and ecofriendly. Corrosion inhibitors are introduced into coating to improve its anticorrosive properties but to avoid its detrimental effect on coating properties and for its long term uses without leaching, they are microencapsulated or incorporated into nanocontainers. Microencapsulation is one of the approach in which crack healing agents are encapsulated and then incorporated into coating. Wide range of nanocontainers is available or synthesized and corrosion inhibitors are incorporated into it by various methods. Conductive polymer is one of the finest materials used in anticorrosive properties and it could be used in various forms such as it can be used as such or in composite with another material or as nanocontainers. Carbon nanotubes and graphene based materials and their composites are popular in anticorrosive coating. Ion exchange pigment is used in anticorrosive coating in which protective ions are exchanged with corrosive ions and healing of the crack takes place.
