Analysis of RCC Building with and Without Shear Wall Subjected to Blast Load

Mohammad Athar, S.S. Jamkar

Abstract

In recent time we have witnessed number of terrorist activities around the world. In this era of technology, it is easy to target structures such as public building, bridges etc. by blasting them. Sometimes accidental blast during handling or storage may also cause huge damage to the structures. It is need of this time to make structures safe against such loads. Experimental methods are not always feasible hence in this study analytical work is carried out to find out blast load parameters. A building is analyzed in SAP 2000 software pregame and blast load is applied using time history analysis and checked the parameters such as Displacement, Acceleration and Base Shear. UFC 3–340–02 code is used to calculate blast load. Ultimate aim of this study is to make structures blast resistant shear walls are proposed with various combinations and the results shows in which positions shear walls can be use so that displacement will decrease and base shear will increase.
