Comparative Study of Machining Parameters on Electrical Discharge Machining of Inconel 718 using Copper and Copper-Tungsten Electrode
Abstract
The present scenario in all the manufacturing industries is to make a priority list to cope up the challenges imposed by the superior materials like alloys, ceramics and composite materials which have difficulty in machining. In this study, comparison of experimental results which is found by optimization of machining parameters on material removal and tool wear rate along with two different electrodes material such as copper and copper tungsten for same design of experiment in machining of Inconel 718 is performed using ZNC spark erosion machine. Four machining parameters such as current, pulse duration, pulse interval and gap voltage are considered for the experimental study. Taguchi optimization approach is considered for the design of the experiment. In this study, the material removal rate is more when copper-tungsten electrode is used but in case of tool wear rate, the copper electrode has more tools wear as compared to copper-tungsten electrode.
