Wastewater Management in Smart Cities Using PLC and SCADA
Abstract
Smart cities are the best examples to improve the standard of living of people in any country. Cities are made smart by integrating smart systems, that is, water supply system, electricity control system, smart communication technology etc. In this study, a model has been developed for controlling the water supply system for a smart city using PLC (Programmable Logic controller) and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition). A case study has been done in the smart city which consists of sectors like domestic societies, a sugar mill, healthcare and corporate sites. The water flow data has been observed for each sector and formulated according to the use in smart cities. It is observed that by using an automated water treatment plant connecting all the sectors, there is an approximate monthly saving of 60% in water consumption and around 66% money saving on the water bills.
