Automatic Saline Monitoring System

Rashmi Angane

Abstract

Doctors use Intravenous (IV) therapy to replenish lost fluids flush wounds, deliver medicals and sustain patients through surgery, dialysis and chemotherapy. IV therapy is also used when a person requires a large dose of medication for an extended period of time or when a person requires multiple injections while receiving treatments for some chronic conditions. When fed with saline, monitoring the level of saline is mandatory. There are cases where patients get harmed due to the carelessness of the caretakers or nurses as they fail to notice the completion of saline in the bag, this may lead to backward flow of blood from the vein into the bag and can affect the patients health. This might be inferred as a casual phenomenon but the consequences are fatal. The proposed system aims at solving the above mentioned problem effectively. The proposed model incorporates a capacity proximity sensor whose sensitivity can be controlled and detects the presence of objects around it without having any physical contact. It detects the absence of saline in the solution and with the help of arduino it gives input to servo motor. Servo motor is connected to arduino it works according to the input received from the arduino and compresses the tube therby stopping the reverse flow of blood.
