Effect of Surface Modifications on the Meniscus Velocities of Dyed Water in PMMA Microchannels

Subhadeep Mukhopadhyay

Abstract

In this work, author has fabricated the polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) microfluidic devices to study the effect of surface modification techniques on surface-driven capillary flow. Maskless lithography, hot embossing lithography and direct bonding technique are used to fabricate the PMMA microfluidic devices. The effect of static water contact angle on surface- driven capillary flow is studied in the fabricated devices. The effect of the arrays of square PMMA micropillars on surface-driven capillary flow of dyed water is studied. This work is useful for bioengineering applications.
