Abstract

The study provides an insight into the production of bioethanol from the unused Ethiopian waste potatoes. A pretreatment process was carried out to convert the potato starch into fermentable sugar through acid hydrolysis. The experimental parameters investigated during the hydrolysis were the temperature, liquid-solid ratio, and treatment time. Optimal values for hydrolysis were determined by the Response Surface Methodology (RSM) using Central Composite Design (CCD). The total reduced sugar content and bioethanol yield was determined in this study. The starch content of the waste potatoes was 0.095 g/mL. The optimal value of the sugar content of waste potatoes was 0.080 g/mL. The bioethanol yield from the waste potatoes was 32.0% (v/v)
