Abstract

This paper presents the design of Mono-isopropyl amine production process. Process flow diagram is designed with Aspen Plus user interface. Mono-isopropyl amine obtained is of purity 100% and the designed plant is safe to environment with less emissions. After the design of the process pinch analysis is applied for the entire process by using Aspen Energy analyzer. From the extracted data using Aspen Energy Analyzer a HEN (Heat Exchanger Network) is developed for the base case design and this HEN is subjected to retrofit analysis to find an alternative energy efficient HEN which minimizes the operating costs. In retrofit analysis four new heat exchangers are added to the base case HEN which reduced the operating cost with the payback period of 1.763 years.
