Abstract

The goal of this project is to create a sustainable power source based on a piece of exercise equipment. This project attempts to concentrate on designing an energy producing gym equipment which is responsive to the course of action of an exercise machine for converting kinetic energy of the exercise gear into electrical power. During an exercise, the kinetic energy created by movement caused by the force imparted by the user to overcome the resistance of the equipment is typically wasted in the mechanics of the equipment. This design employs a simple drive mechanism, such as a rack and pinion mechanism, to convert mechanical energy into electrical energy. The control mechanism is made up of several subsystems, including rack and pinion, direct current generator, battery, and inverter control. This report will introduce all relevant data with respect to design and development of the final product.
