Performance Evaluation of Diesel Engine Fuelled with Karanja Biodiesel
Abstract
The aim of this study is to evaluate the performance of diesel engine fuelled with karanja (Pongamia pinnata) based biodiesel (B100). A single cylinder, air-cooled, constant speed (1500 rpm) direct injection diesel engine was operated with diesel and karanja based biodiesel (B100). The results indicate that biodiesel fuelled engine has lower Brake Thermal efficiency (BTE), whereas the Break Specific Energy Consumption (BSEC) is higher. The Air-fuel ratio and exhaust temperature have been found to be higher in case of karanja biodiesel.
Keywords: Karanja biodiesel, brake thermal efficiency, brake specific fuel consumption, air-fuel ratio
