Production of Glucose from Corn cobs using dilute sulfuric acid
Abstract
AbstractCorn cob, a waste residue of corn can be used as substrates for the production of reducing sugar (glucose). This research is aimed to study of the effect of acid concentration, time and temperature for a high yield of reducing sugar from Corn cob. A three-variable, three-level Box-Behnken design was used to develop a statistical model for the optimization of the process variables. The optimal hydrolysis situations that resulted in the maximum glucose yield were acid concentration 4% (w/v), reaction time of 30 min and reaction temperature of 130℃. Under these conditions, the yield of glucose was about 53%.
