Behaviour of Staggered Opening Shear wall in Tall buildings
Abstract
Now a days we are seeing a rapidly increasing the cost of land not only in India even all over the world and also we need to preserve our important agricultural productive land too. All contributed towards both residential and commercial structures growth in vertical direction that is high rise structure. Behavior of these high rise structures especially with shear walls during hazards like earthquake, wind and lateral loads due to gravity are nowadays prime topic of study of structural engineering. Introduction of shear walls in a building is a structurally efficient solution to stiffen the building because they provide the necessary lateral strength and stiffness to resist horizontal forces.A shear wall is a vertical wall-like structure designed to resist in-plane lateral forces. The size and location of shear walls is extremely critical. Properly designed and detailed buildings with shear walls have shown good performance in past earthquakes. In the present study, work contains the seismic analysis of G+22 High Rise Building by using shear walls at different locations with staggered openings in the building. Also, the investigation of seismic performance of the building based on parameters such as base shear, storey displacement and storey drift. The seismic analysis is performed by using Linear Dynamic Method and well-known analysis and design software ETABS.
