Analysis and A.I. Modelling of Parameters of Symmetrical Multistory Building using Non-linear Static Analysis
Abstract
Non-linear static analysis (Push over Analysis) is the emerging field in seismic design of structures.
The major drawback of elastic analysis is that the response beyond the linear state is neither linear
nor simple extrapolation. Although elastic analysis gives a good indication of the elastic capacity of
structures, but it cannot account for redistribution of forces during progressive yielding of a structure
that follows and to predict its failure mechanism or detect possible location of any premature failure.
The inelastic behavior of the structure could be predicted more accurately by non- linear static
analysis. It can help in identifying critical members likely to reach critical states in the event of an
earthquake for which attention should be given during designing and detailing. Performance-based
design is determined by Non-linear static analysis under constant gravity loads and monotonically
increasing lateral forces during an earthquake until a target displacement is reached. Graph between
roof displacements vs. base shear is plotted after this analysis and a capacity curve is attained.
Performance-Based Design requires rigorous nonlinear analysis. Research is in progress and it is
slowly emerging in arena for designers to design new buildings or to retrofit existing buildings to
meet performance objectives. RCC walls provide lateral support to the building in case of seismic
event. In the present study push over analysis is carried out on 10 and 15 story buildings with
different configuration of RCC walls. Also the best configuration is selected (B9) on the basis of
Ultimate Base shear, push over analysis curve, roof displacement, etc.
