Experimental Investigation on the Strength of Concrete with Partial Replacement of Cement using GGBS and Alccofine
Abstract
Cement is the most important ingredient of concrete. A large scale production of cement consumes large amount of energy and produce a large amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) gas which harmful to human as well as environmental and natural resources. So, to avoid the effect to use industrial waste productions as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM) in making concrete i.e. silica fumes, rice husk ash, fly ash, metakaolin, alccofine, ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) etc. In this project the experimental study on concrete by replacing cement with GGBS and Alccofine. Initially M50 grade of concrete is designed from IS 10262:2019 i.e. Mix 1. Nominal mix of grade M50 conrete without replacing OPC i.e. Mix 2 is 30 % GGBS and 20% alccofine, Mix 3 is 20% GGBS and 30% alccofine and Mix 4 is 25% GGBS and 25% alccofine. But in Mix 2, Mix 3 and Mix 4 OPC 50% is constant. Following that, specimens made of concrete were prepared in the shapes of cubes, cylinders, and beams to carry out experiments measuring their compressive strength, split tensile strength, and flexural strength at regular intervals of 7, 14, and 28 days. Finally concluded that 30% GGBS and 20% alccofine can be replaced with OPC and strength obtained is compared to the conventional concrete mix.
