Comparative Seismic Analysis of Composite Building Frames Considering Wind Pressure per I.S. 875-III: An ETABS-Based Review
Abstract
The seismic analysis of composite building frames, while factoring in wind pressure in accordance with the I.S. 875-III standards, stands as a pivotal imperative. It serves as the linchpin in guaranteeing not only the structural robustness but also the optimal performance of these edifices, ensuring they can withstand the formidable forces of nature with unwavering resilience.This study provides an in-depth and thorough analysis of past research endeavors that have delved into the seismic response of composite building frames when subjected to wind loads, employing the powerful analysis tool ETABS. The study focuses on the comparative analysis of different methodologies and approaches employed in assessing the structural response of composite frames to seismic and wind-induced forces.
The seismic analysis of composite building frames requires accurate modeling and consideration of various factors, including wind pressure, material properties, frame geometry, and connections. I.S. 875-III provides the relevant guidelines for wind load determination in composite structures. ETABS, a widely used software tool, offers powerful capabilities for modeling and analyzing the behavior of composite building frames subjected to wind pressure and seismic forces.
This review paper aims to summarize and compare the findings from different studies that have utilized ETABS for the seismic analysis of composite building frames. The review evaluates the methodologies used for wind pressure determination, load combination techniques, analysis methods (such as linear and nonlinear static analysis, response spectrum analysis, and time history analysis), and the assessment of structural performance parameters (such as inter-story drifts, base shear, and member forces).
The comparative study highlights the strengths and limitations of various analysis approaches, providing insights into the accuracy and reliability of different methodologies in predicting the seismic response of composite building frames. It also examines the influence of different design parameters, such as material types, composite action, frame configurations, and lateral load resisting systems.
The outcomes of this review will help engineers, researchers, and professionals in the field of structural engineering to gain a comprehensive understanding of the seismic behavior of composite building frames under wind pressure.
