Abstract

The paper presents Rail Clamping Sequence based Pulse Width Modulation (RCPWM) algorithms applied to Direct Torque Control (DTC) of induction motor drive. This RCPWM based DTC retains all the advantages of conventional DTC (CDTC), moreover it eliminates the complexity involved in SVPWM algorithm and results in reduced current ripple at higher modulation indices and lowers the switching losses at all modulation indices. To validate the proposed method, simulation through MATLAB is employed and the steady state waveforms of RCPWM based DTC are presented. Also, comparison of line current Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) with different RCPWM controlled DTC induction motor drive with respect to the CDTC drive is presented in this paper.
