Mechanical Properties of Geopolymer Concrete Paver Block

Thejasvi M

Abstract

Geopolymer concrete (GPC) is an innovative material and a real alternative to conventional Portland cement concrete. It relies on minimally processed natural materials or industrial by-products to significantly reduce its carbon footprint. However, the development of this material is still in its infancy, and a number of advancements are still needed. This paper focuses on the production of geopolymer concrete paver block (GPCPB) without using sodium hydroxide and investigates the properties of GPCPB. The experimental works involve conducting compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength tests on low calcium fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) based GPCPB. The test results show that the compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength of the GGBFS based GPCPB was higher than fly ash based GPCPB.
