Investigation of Mechanical Properties of Friction Stir Welded AA6063 Joints

Friction Stir Welding is often referred as the joining technology of next generation because of its multiple advantages over the existing conventional processes. It is a solid state joining process which is free from the requirement of filler wire, consumable material, harmful gaseous emissions and also provides smooth surface with better surface finish. Moreover since no third additive material is involved hence, the microstructure of the welded joint also bears resemblance to the base metal. In this paper, Aluminium alloy AA6063 has been friction stir welded with rotational speed being the variable parameter. The obtained joint has been characterized for mechanical property Tensile Strength. The work has a significant importance because the used material AA6063 is having versatile operational utility in various applications.
