Labor Productivity in Construction Worksite: Impacting Factors and Measures for Improvement
Abstract
The study aims to identify the influencing factors affecting labor productivity, measure its impact level and ranking of these factors using Relative Important Index. Also, certain measures are suggested for enhancing labor productivity at worksite. Five categories and twenty-eight factors affecting labor productivity were identified through literature survey. Questionnaire survey was also conducted to assess the factors influencing labor productivity at worksite and the same was evaluated through five point Likert scale. The twenty-eight factors affecting productivity were grouped under five categories namely labor category, material/equipment category, health and safety category, management category and external category. After analyzing the above categories, the top five factors have been ranked and their effects noted. Impact of pandemic situations at construction worksites have also been scrutinized and five of its factors were assessed and their effect on labor productivity were investigated. Measures for improving labor productivity with respect to time, cost and quality of the construction project were suggested.
