Abstract

Abstract: In today’s competitive market, producing industries need to satisfy additional numerous queries from the market, like widening the merchandise ranges, increasing quality and precise the delivery time. Manufacturing sector of production industries spends a huge amount of money and wealth on design and reallocation of available facilities. For an organization to have an effective and efficient manufacturing unit, it is important that optimal usage and design of facility layout should be done. Weak facility plan can be costly and will result in inferior quality of products, fever employee morale and efficiency and client’s dissatisfaction. The success of any manufacturing unit depends on optimal use of all facilities, machines, tools, and techniques available within the unit. The right and optimal use of facility can assure higher production. Quality production in quantity of sophisticated product requires huge investment. The manufacturing process must be cost effective up to the optimal threshold to sustain the product in international market. The focus of the presented research paper is to determine the optimal combination of the machines to avoid buffering and bottleneck condition in the manufacturing process. The individual parameters of machine participating in manufacturing process at cluster level are incorporated in mathematical model to obtain a resultant objective function of complete manufacturing process. Genetic algorithm is implemented on resultant objective function to decide optimal set of machine combination. In this research paper, we have investigated the floor design of KEC International Ltd for facilities layout design of existing plant layout. Our work aims to facilitate and introduce the application of Facility Layout Problems to industrial case studies based on system engineering methodologies and performance measurements. Simulation is carried in Matlab Software. Simulations results are compared with existing combination and found that overall efficiency and performance has been improved up to remarkable extend.
