Safety Wheelchair Navigation System

Malek Njah

Abstract

Abstract

In this paper, design of an electronic system to drive electric wheelchair “EW” for disabled persons. Initially, the EW it’s electrically controlled by using joystick, we propose to add ‘Arduino’ card linked to the manual control system. The purpose of this work is to reduce the human effort used to drive wheelchairs. In addition, it also provides an opportunity for people with visual or physical disabilities to move from one place to another. The wheelchair is also equipped with a barrier detection system that reduces the chance of collision during displacement. This project also aims to build an intelligent wheelchair, which will have a kind of intelligence and thus help the user to move with more security. To achieve this task, we add ultrasonic and infrared sensors to the wheelchair.
