Abstract

Abstract

In this paper, design of a dual operated microstrip patch antenna is presents. The dual-operation frequencies are chosen for UMTS/GPS and WLAN bands. A microstrip square patch antenna is designed which is excited by a microstrip line feed from the bottom of the antenna. An epoxy glass FR4 material is used as a substrate in the designing of antenna. The antenna is first modified in inverted U-shaped design to operate at higher frequency of 2.4 GHz. An isosceles triangular patch is then together designed to drive at the lower frequency of 1.46 GHz. The feeding is common, i.e., microstrip line feed. Simulations are successively performed on both designed antennas. The triangular patch is together with the inverted U-shaped structured. The grouped U-shaped antenna is optimized by performing consecutive steps of simulations in order to drive at the two frequencies of operations.
