Abstract

Abstract

The demand for wood materials in the construction of building field is on the rise. This leads to the depletion of natural resources and encourages deforestation. The polymeric composite materials reinforced with natural fiber are being used as a wood substitute and is also used for fabricating interior parts of the automobiles. Acacia fiber is also added to the polyester resin, since it is good in compressive and tensile strength. In this current investigation, the hybrid composite specimens were fabricated by hand lay-up process with sisal and acacia fibers reinforced in polyester matrix. The mechanical strength in terms of tensile, compressive, and impact were determined by varying the average length of fibers and concluded that the mechanical properties were enhanced by the addition mentioned natural fibers and also suggested that these fibers are best alternative to the future applications.
