Abstract

With the increase in the utilization of energy and population, there is a critical need to preserve energy in every way possible. Home automation is the use and control of home appliances remotely or automatically. A distantly accessible environment is a location in which each appliance can be remotely accessed and controlled using software as an interface. The aim of this paper is to build up a system that will offer remote control of home appliances. This paper is mainly concerned with the automatic control of any home appliances with internet. It is mainly aimed to save the electric power and human energy. This system is made with the help of the Raspberry Pi and Wi-Fi. The Raspberry Pi is a credit card sized single-board computer which uses a different kind of processor. Various appliances are connected to the Raspberry Pi and controlled using Wi-Fi. It is a capable little device that enables people of all ages to discover computing, and to gain knowledge on how to program in languages like Scratch and Python. The Raspberry Pi has the ability to interact with the outside world. The proposed model of Raspberry pi based home automation system was implemented and tested successfully.
