Nuclear industry goes to great lengths to ensure that safety takes overriding priority in siting, design, construction, and operation of nuclear power plants. There are well established safety principles and practices, which are followed internationally. The principle of defence in depth is followed in toto, to ensure that safety provisions are adequate and consequences would be acceptable. Management of safety is carried out by the regulating authority through periodic safety reviews
