Abstract

This paper presents sex per mental and analytical methods of determining elastic constants of two different kinds of materials. Elastic constants of unidirectional glass/epoxy laminates and Aluminium from the measured eigenfrequencies has been performed. Traditional ‘strike method’ is adopted for the exciting the structure and response is obtained through accelerometer. Vibration analysis is carried out using frequency response function (FRF) measurement technique to determine natural frequencies and mode shapes. Elastic constants are then determined analytically using equations that are available in the literature based on natural frequencies and geometry of the specimens used. Experiments are conducted forfree-free and cantilever boundary conditions. Itis found that elastic modulus estimated through experimental and analytical methods are reasonably in good agreement.
