Abstract

Forging is a manufacturing process which requires an understanding of a wide range of geometrical, material and process parameters. Here is to be discussed about the various parameters of the forging process. The most important decision in this die design is about the parting line. It affects and is affected by part orientating, die design holder and die insert. There is involved a scientific approach to parting line and analysis of unambiguous definition of forging die design and related features are required, valid for all types of tooling being considered. The selection of parting line between die segments is an important part, during the design of tooling and analysis of die design in forging process with respect to part geometry. In this work, we proposed the method design and cost estimation methodology that involves material cost, conversion cost and machining cost and the method design to arrive to one of the possible die design with respect to part geometry, cost analysis and process planning. Regression analysis is used for calculating the cost estimation of the tooling which is used in the forging process.
