Abstract

The firefly algorithm (FA) is one of the Nature-inspired algorithms which is inspired by the flashing behavior of fireflies. This algorithm appeared about five years ago in 2008, and its literature has expanded with diverse applications. In this, randomly generated solutions will be considered as fireflies, and brightness is depending on their performance on the objective function. This algorithm is based on a formula of light intensity I that decreases with the increase in the square of the distance. However, as the distance from the light source increases, the light absorption causes that light becomes weaker and weaker. These phenomena can be associated with the objective function to be optimized. It motivates new researchers and algorithm developers to use this simple and yet very efficient algorithm for problem solving.
