Understanding Green Manufacturing (GM)

Sanjay Kumar Jha, Abhishek Kumar Singh, Anand Prakash

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to capture viewpoints of green manufacturing which is one of the important inclinations of contemporary manufacturing. It introduces first the importance of this topic now followed by definitions, motivations, features, acceptability, linkages and issues associated with green manufacturing. It deals with the fundamental concepts that underlie the subject of green manufacturing, and defines key terms and makes critical distinctions. Finally, this paper proposes that the current focus for green manufacturing strategies should provide directions for its adoption and implementation. The existing knowledge base on green manufacturing is somewhat fragmented and relatively unexplored. This paper intends to contribute a set of understanding to capture the current state-of-the-art of this topic.
