Comparative Study of Seismic Performance of Multistory Symmetrical RC Frame Structure with and Without Dampers
Abstract
This paper investigates the influence of friction dampers on the nonlinear seismic performance of multistory structure. The operational mechanism of these devices is that a large amount of energy inputting to the structure could be absorbed and the displacement of the structure is reduced. For this purpose, four types of frames are investigated with dampers at different locations. Three types of natural time histories are used for the nonlinear seismic analysis (nonlinear time history) in SAP 2000. The time period, base shear and displacement of the bare frame is compared with the frames having dampers at different locations.
