Design of Steel Plate Shear Wall with Opening for Steel Building

Abstract


Steel plate shear walls have been used more and more in the steelstructures to resist earthquake and wind forces. This system offersseveral advantages as compared to the other usual lateral load resistingsystems. Steel saving, speed of erection, reduced foundation cost, and increased usable space in buildings are some apparent advantages ofthe steel plate shear walls. Steel plate shear walls also provide majorstiffness against building drift for the hi-rise buildings.This paper describes the analysis and design of high-rise steel buildingframe with and without Steel platesshear wall (SPSW). In this paperequivalent static analysis is carried out for steel moment resistingbuilding frame having (G+4) storey situated in zone IV. The analysis of steel plate shear wall and the building are carried out using Software STAAD PRO. The main parameters considered in this paper are tocompare the seismic performance of buildings such as;bendingmoment, shear force, deflection and axial force. This paper alsofocused on the effects comes on the steel structure with and withoutshear wall.
