A venturi flume is a device used to measure discharge in open channel. It consists of a convergent section followed by throat and a diverging section. The venturi flume normally occupies full width of channel on actual field. The present study proposes a new design of miniature venturi flume with reduction in width. The width reduction ratios of miniature flume to channel width (b/B) considered in the project are 0.33, 0.50 and 0.66.The purpose of doing such reduction is to investigate the possibility of saving of construction cost. At the same time to carry out calibration of miniature venturi flume so that it can still be used as flow measuring device in open channels. At present the experimentation with one of the miniature venturi flumes (b/B=0.50) is completed and rest two tests are in process. The experimental results are found to be satisfactory and presented herewith.
