Validation of geomorphological parameters of Bori Basin of Akkalkot Taluka, Solapur District by using GIS & Topographic Data

V.M. Kolhe, Nanasaheb Jayawant Sathe

Abstract

The present research discusses the geomorphologic parameters of Bori basin that are determined by
using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Topographical Conventional System. The digital
elevation model (DEM) of the basin is downloaded from Aster-GDEM and this digital map is used in
the GIS software program to determine the geomorphologic parameters of the Bori basin. The
geomorphological parameters are the area of basin, perimeter, river length, slope, etc. The extracted
parameters are compared with the parameters obtained by conventional methods. These studies have
shown that the geomorphologic parameters of the Bori basin determined by using GIS are much more
precise and accurate than those determined by the conventional topographic method.
