Mechanical Performance Analysis of PET based Fibre Reinforced Concrete: A Review

Abstract
Concrete is characterized by various kinds of defects which include low tensile strength, low ductility, heavy weight and low energy absorption among others. Use of plastic wastes in concrete will result in safe, eco-friendly disposal as well as enhancement of certain physical and mechanical properties of concrete. Due to its certain user friendly and desirable properties such as low density, high tensile and impact strength, fabrication capabilities, long life, light weight, and low cost, utilization of plastics has gained an exceptional growth. Addition of fibres to concrete results in crack inhibition and substantial increase in the tensile strength, cracking resistance, impact strength, wear and tear, fatigue resistance and ductility of concrete. In addition to the advantage of recycling of the waste, the incorporation of plastics such as PET in concrete is beneficial when used as light weight aggregate. This paper deals with the detailed literature review and explores the techniques to determine the mechanical performance of PET based fibre reinforced concrete.
