Sachin Vrajlal Rajani, Vivek J. Pandya, Varsha A. Shah

Abstract

The clean, affordable, and sustainable energy has become a need of an hour and with these requirements, if the options are scanned, the solar photovoltaics tops the chart. The worldwide production of electricity with the use of photovoltaics is increasing day by day and year by year and that too in GW range. India is also adopting practices to enhance its dependency on renewables particularly on photovoltaics and with the technology and time passing, the energy storage devices are also gaining attention. This paper presents a detailed analysis of these energy storage devices especially batteries and supercapacitors in terms of available options, cost-benefit analysis and integration issues with the grid as well as their performance indices.

Keywords: Storage Devices, Photovoltaic Systems, Lead-acid Batteries, Supercapacitors, Sizing, Li-ion Batteries.
