This paper is intended to review the significant development in design optimization of electrical motors in last decay. Contents in this review paper starts with introduction
of induction motor and its role in the industry. Different optimization methods which can be applied to get best suited optimal design of induction motor to achieve best performance of machines are discussed. Genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) are two latest methods developed in last decay based on artificial neural network (ANN). Optimal design consist of modification in motor material and cost in order to optimize efficiency of induction motor.
Keywords: induction motor, design optimization, genetic algorithm (GA), particle swarm optimization (PSO), Hooke-Jeeves method
